Art League of Hilton Head hires new executive director

The Art League of Hilton Head has tapped a consultant who has worked with the organization since November to be its next leader.

Jamie Gall is already familiar with many of her new tasks: She took over many of the Art League's administrative duties when former executive director Linda Powers left about a month after Gall was hired as a consultant.

Powers was hired in January 2012 as the organization's first executive director.

Gall explained the turnover as "growing pains."

"The Art League wants to grow and become more competitive within the arts on the island," she said, adding competition for donations and grants is steep.

Gall said she hopes to collaborate more with other island arts groups and attract a broader audience.

"Membership has been very strong, but we’re trying to attract a younger audience and more working class adults and families," she said.

The Art League hosts visual arts exhibits at the Walter Greer Gallery in the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and offers art classes to the community.
