Simpler, less costly way to protect our schools

Published: February 9, 2013

With all the suggestions and input about school safety today, especially firearms problems, I would like to tell you of the system used in prisons in New Zealand. All staff members wear a small buzzer that can be concealed quite easily and cuts down cost.

In our schools, a staff member in an office could contact a patrolman with a firearm when prompted by a teacher using his or her buzzer. Having seen this in action, I feel the teachers would be more secure.
