Coastal Community Foundation gives $565,000 in grants to 59 organizations

The Beaufort Fund of Coastal Community Foundation announced $565,000 in grants Friday to be distributed to 59 Lowcountry organizations and nonprofit groups.

Most of the grants are for $15,000 or less for one year, but five organizations will receive an extra $65,500 during the life of three-year grants.

Those are Child Abuse Prevention Association, Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse, Collaborative Organization of Services for Youth, Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities CareMobile. Each serves all four of the counties the foundation benefits -- Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper.

The foundation has been helping Lowcountry organizations and residents for 13 years and has awarded more than $5.6 million in grants, according to a news release.

The awards were announced during a reception Friday night at The Shed in Port Royal.

One-year grants will be given to the following organizations:

  • Serving all four counties -- Coastal Community Foundation, ACCESS Network, the Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross, AMI Kids Beaufort, Beaufort County Open Land Trust, Beaufort Women's Center, Born To Read Beaufort Partnership, HELP of Beaufort, Junior Achievement of Coastal S.C., Little Red Dog Foundation, Lowcountry Food Bank, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, Lowcountry Open Land Trust, Second Helpings , Sheldon Township Community Support Southern Partnership, Technical College Lowcountry Foundation.

  • Serving Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties -- Antioch Educational Center.

  • Serving Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper counties -- University of South Carolina Beaufort's Center for the Arts.

  • Serving Hampton and Colleton counties -- United Way of Bamberg, Colleton & Hampton Counties.

  • Serving Beaufort, Colleton and Hampton counties -- Nemours Wildlife Foundation.

  • Serving Beaufort and Jasper counties -- Beaufort/Jasper First Steps, Bluffton-Jasper Co. Volunteers in Medicine, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry's rural units, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, The Children's Center, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic.

  • Serving Beaufort and Colleton counties -- Center for Heirs' Property Preservation.

  • Serving Beaufort County -- Alzheimer's Family Services of Greater Beaufort, Arts Council of Beaufort County, Center for Heirs' Property Preservation, Family Promise of Beaufort County, Franciscan Center, Friends of Caroline Hospice, Good Neighbor Medical Clinic, Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity of Beaufort, Meals on Wheels of Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

  • Also, the Neighborhood Outreach Connection, Our Lady's Pantry of the Catholic Charities Support Services, the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Math Foundation, Senior Services of Beaufort County, Thumbs Up, Under One Roof Services, the YMCA of Beaufort County.

  • Serving Colleton County -- Colleton Center, Colleton County First Steps, Colleton County Memorial Library, Colleton Habitat for Humanity, St. John AME Church.

  • Serving Jasper County -- Agape Family Life Center.

  • Serving Hampton County -- Alexander Community Development Center, Hampton County First Steps, Hampton County Literacy Council, Hampton Friends of the Arts, Hampton School District One.
