A 54-year-old Moncks Corner man is charged with having sexual relations with a minor -- which began about a decade ago -- after his alleged victim, now 24, recently filed a reported with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Eugene Godawski was charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor Wednesday and released from jail, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.

The alleged victim reported that he met Godawski online when he was 13. Godawski posed as a 15-year-old boy online, but when they met in person, the victim learned he was 45 years old, said Sgt. Robin McIntosh.

The two allegedly had multiple consensual sexual encounters in Beaufort County when the victim was between the ages of 13 and 19.

The victim decided to continue the relationship over several years, but recently reported it out of concern that Godawski may have victimized other juveniles and is continuing to do so, McIntosh said.
