Three sightings of a Peeping Tom have been reported on Hilton Head Islands south end over the past three weeks, according to the Beaufort County Sheriffs Office.
Last night at Tanglewood Villas, a 13-year-old girl told deputies she saw a black male staring at her through her bedroom window, according to a news release.
The victims mother reported that the man ran from the side of the building and jumped over a fence at about 10:30 p.m. Deputies searched the area, with only a description of a black male in dark clothing, but didnt find anyone.
The Sheriffs Office says two other similar encounters have been reported in the surrounding area.
On Jan. 24, a black male was seen hiding in the bushes of the courtyard area of Beach Arbor Villas at 24 DeAllyon Ave. The complainant said the same man had been spotted on several occasions in the area between 6:45 a.m. and 7 a.m., and was concerned he was trying to watch young female tennis students as they got dressed in the morning, the release said.
On Jan. 30, deputies went to the Metropolitan Hotel at 36 South Forest Beach Drive after a 25-year-old female desk clerk reported she saw a man masturbating outside the window at 1:30 a.m.
In all cases, the suspect is described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30, about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds.
The Sheriffs Office is advising South Forest Beach residents and business owners to be on the lookout and to report suspicious people. Anyone with information should contact Cpl. D. Seifert at 843-255-3414 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (274-6372).
