Prep Roundup, Feb. 6: Battery Creek boys wrap up 2nd place with win over Burke

Battery Creek 62, Burke 61: Devontae Wilson hit a free throw with two seconds left to lift Battery Creek to a 62-61 win Tuesday night against Burke, giving the Dolphins a guaranteed second-place finish in Region 6-AA.

Wilson finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Battery Creek (12-10 overall, 10-3 region). Adonis Williams had 11 points, seven assists and two steals, and Eric Freeman had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Dolphins play again on Thursday at Academic Magnet.

Beaufort High 63, Colleton County 40: Marlon Williams led four Eagles in double figures, scoring 14 points.

Kendrick Colvin added 13, Otis McClain had 12 and Jawan Mack finished with 11 for Beaufort High (14-8 overall, 4-5 Region 8-AAAA), which hosts Bluffton on Thursday.

Rashee Hodges had 12 points to lead Colleton County.

Thomas Heyward Academy 51, St. Andrew's 47: JD Tuten scored 19 points and Dylan Tillotson added 13 as the Rebels won a play-in game for the SCISAA Region 1-AA tournament.

The win sends the Rebels into a first-round game against top-seeded Charleston Collegiate on Thursday night at Thomas Heyward.

Northwood Academy 47, Hilton Head Christian 45: The Eagles trailed 29-19 at the half, but came back to make it a close game before losing when a full-court desperation shot at the buzzer fell short.

"We clawed our way back in it," Eagles coach Mac Tamminen said. "We fought, they hit some free throws down the stretch."

Brad Meccariello led the way with 19 points for Hilton Head Christian (9-13 overall, 2-7 SCISAA Region 3-AAA), and Zach Polk had 11.

The Eagles play at region-leading Porter-Gaud at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Douglas Dwight had 12 points and Tayvaughn Major scored 10 to lead Northwood Academy.

Middle school: St. Peter's 22, St. Francis 15

Middle school: Riverview Charter 56, Cross Episcopal 9


Battery Creek 57, Burke 34: Daisja Cannon had 22 points, 10 assists, six steals and three rebounds to help the Dolphins cruise to victory at home.

Ericka Alston added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Tatyana Fripp had eight points for Battery Creek (14-8 overall, 8-5 Region 6-AA), which plays Thursday at Academic Magnet.

Bria Brown and Brittany Kwot scored 10 points each for Burke.

Colleton County 79, Beaufort High 23: Jasmine Wallace had seven points and Jordan Fields chipped in six in the Eagles' loss.

Regina Bolden grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Beaufort High (1-21).

The Eagles will honor their three seniors at home Thursday as they close out the regular season against Bluffton.

Northwood Academy 63, Hilton Head Christian 38: Northwood's Amber Campbell poured in 37 points to sink the Eagles.

Andy Anderson rang up 18 points to lead Hilton Head Christian. Macee Tamminen chipped in seven points, and Ziarre Doe scored six.

The Eagles were outscored 24-14 in a decisive third quarter.

Now 7-10 overall, Hilton Head Christian visits Porter-Gaud on Friday.
