Smoke drifts where the bottom of a tree smolders Tuesday afternoon as a tractor trailer drives down S.C. 315 in Levy. Signs were posted along the road warning drivers of the haze. It's not clear what caused the smoke, which enveloped a mile-long section of Jasper County along S.C. 315 on Tuesday morning and lingered much of the day. Wilbur Daley, head of Jasper County Emergency Management, said it appeared to be from a controlled burn or brush fire but could not confirm that. An official with the Jasper County office of the S.C. Department of Transportation also was unaware of the source.
