Battery Creek basketball player Devontae Wilson
THE BEAUFORT GAZETTE
Devontae Wilson isn't doing this on his own.
He's glad for that. The Battery Creek High School sophomore thinks the Dolphins are playing more as a team than they did a season ago.
Wilson and teammate Yuneek Crittendon lead Battery Creek in scoring, at 12.5 points per game. But Wilson said he doesn't look at the numbers.
After starting as a freshman, Wilson worked to improve his jumping ability and pull-up jump shot. His work is for the team, he said.
"We don't care who scores the most," he said. "I always look to my team. I can't win by myself."
Battery Creek is 10-10 on the season and 8-3 in Region 6-AA entering tonight's region matchup with North Charleston. Coach Antoine Youmans believes a victory could help the Dolphins secure the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game.
And that's what Wilson and his teammates have in mind.
"Go far in the playoffs, that's all we're looking for," Wilson said. "We're a pretty good team."
The Beaufort Gazette and The Island Packet caught up with Wilson this week and ran him through the Two-Minute Drill. What's one word that describes you? Outgoing. Best way to spend free time?
