Wind advisory in effect through early Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Beaufort County and surrounding areas.

The advisory, which begins about midday and remains in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday, warns of winds from the south at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts expected up to 40 mps.

Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use caution on bridges and overpasses. Isolated downed trees and power lines could be possible.

CNN is reporting that the same storm system that will bring high winds to Beaufort County spawned a tornado near Adairsville, GA, north of Atlanta. Dozens of cars apparently were turned over on Interstate 75 and buildings were damaged. CNN reported that ll lanes of the interstate were blocked in both directions near Adairsville, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation reports.

A Tennessee man died when high winds toppled a tree on his home, according to authorities. Other injuries were reported in Chester, McNairy and Henderson counties, spokesman Jeremy Heidt said.

At least one death was reported in Georgia.
