Driver flees Hilton Head crash Saturday

Published: January 28, 2013

A man who caused a three-car wreck Saturday on Hilton Head Island ran from the scene and has not been found, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

At about 5 p.m., the driver rear-ended a vehicle stopped at the traffic light at William Hilton Parkway and Spanish Wells Road, causing that vehicle to hit another vehicle.

The driver who caused the wreck was described as a 5-foot-2, 130-pound Hispanic male between 25 and 40 years old. He wore a blue, zippered sweatshirt and blue jeans. Witnesses said he appeared to be intoxicated or disoriented. His black Nissan Maxima was severely damaged, and there was blood in the car, indicating he might have been injured, McIntosh said.

The occupants of the other two vehicles were not injured.

Deputies used a K9 unit to search the area but did not find the driver, who has not been identified or located, McIntosh said.
