Hilton Head Island girls, boys ranked 1, 2 in preseason soccer polls

Hilton Head Island High's performance in last season's soccer playoffs is reflected in the S.C. High School Soccer Coaches Association's preseason rankings released on Friday.

The girls team is No. 1 in Class 3-A after the Seahawks defeated Eastside, 1-0, to win the state championship, their second in a row and third in five seasons. The Seahawks, led by Faith Lifer and Emily Crick, recorded 18 shutouts last season on their way to a 25-2 record.

The boys, led by returning All-State defender Chris MacMurray, are ranked second in Class 3-A after falling 3-1 to Fort Mill in their first state championship match to finish as the runner-up at 17-4.

The Beaufort Academy girls are ranked third in the SCISAA Class 2-A/1-A poll. The Eagles, led by Miranda Weslake and keeper Charlotte Delfosse, finished 11-6 and fell, 2-1, to Oakbrook Prep in the state championship match last season.

In the SCISAA Class 3-A girls poll, Hilton Head Christian is ranked fifth. The Eagles fell 5-1 to Porter-Gaud in the semifinals last season.
