A 29-year-old Bluffton man was arrested and charged with sexual assault Saturday after Bluffton police were called to a business on Sheridan Park Circle.

Ricardo Alonso Martinez is charged with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree and is being held for questioning by Immigration and Customs Enforcement about his residency, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.

Lt. Joe Babkiewicz said police went to 39 Sheridan Park Circle, Suite 9, and found that a woman had been sexually assaulted. She was taken to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment, according to a news release.

Martinez was also at the business, which was not open at the time, Babkiewicz said. Officers worked through the night and determined Martinez had sexually assaulted the woman, Babkiewicz said.

"We’re not going to reveal their relationship," Babkiewicz said. "But this wasn’t a random act."

Police are also not releasing the age of the victim, saying only that she was over the age of 18.
