Booms shaking houses in northern Beaufort County result of Marine Corps Air Station training

Published: January 24, 2013

Mystery "booms" are shaking houses across northern Beaufort County, from Whale Branch to Coosaw Island to Port Royal.

The booms, which have prompted chatter on social media, are the result of an explosive ordinance disposal training at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, according to a spokesman.

Residents reported hearing the booms at about 11 a.m. Thursday. The training, and possible more booms, will continue into the afternoon but residents should not be concerned.
