Store launches programs to encourage recycling

Outside Hilton Head, an outdoors outfitter store, has launched the Bring Your Own Bag program to encourage the use of reusable shopping bags.

Shoppers who use a reusable cloth or canvas bag at the store's checkout will receive a wooden nickel. The nickels can be dropped in one of the "cause boxes" at the store, and Outside Hilton Head will make a donation to the organization the shopper chooses. Three charities will be featured each month and will be changed periodically.

The store also seeks winter coats and jackets for those who cannot afford them.

Bring your clean coat or jacket in functional condition to the store between Feb. 1 and Feb. 15 and get a discount on a new one.

Jackets collected will be distributed through The Deep Well Project.
