Coming off a 37-point dismantling of then-No. 4 Allendale-Fairfax, Whale Branch Early College High School remains No. 1 in this week's S.C. Basketball Coaches Association Class 1-A rankings.

The Warriors (14-2, 4-0 Region 5-A) dismantled the Tigers 77-40 on Saturday in Seabrook behind a tough zone defense that forced region-rival Allendale-Fairfax (10-5, 3-1) to take far more outside shots than it would have liked.

Whale Branch's only losses of the season came at 3-A Hilton Head Island, 51-49, on Dec. 4, and against Harlan County (Ky.), 82-77 in overtime, in the Dec. 21 opener of the Seahawk Holiday Classic at Hilton Head Island. The Black Bears (16-4) went on to win the tournament.

The only 1-A opponents on the Warriors schedule are their region opponents. In its four region wins, Whale Branch's average margin of victory is 36.5 points through Saturday's win.

The Whale Branch girls move up a spot this week to No. 6 in the 1-A rankings. The Warriors (12-3, 3-0) face No. 5 Denmark-Olar on Tuesday night.
