Up to 23 miles of Beaufort County roads to be repaved

January 22, 2013

Beaufort County is planning to repave up to 23 miles of local roadways later this year using $4.4 million from local sources and a federal government grant.

Portions of 17 different roads have been identified based on an S.C. Department of Transportation priority list. Roads on that list include: Lafayette Street in Beaufort, Stanley Road in Burton and a section of Battery Creek Road in Beaufort and Port Royal.

County engineering director Rob McFee says the county will repave as many roads as it can with the $4.4 million. He’s hopeful there will be enough money for all 17 streets. The work is expected to begin this summer.
