TCL alumni reception set for Feb. 15

The Technical College of the Lowcountry will host its annual Mather School alumni reception and bell-ringing ceremony Feb. 15 in the MacLean Hall Student Center on the Beaufort campus, 921 Ribaut Road. A reception begins at noon, and the formal program at 1 p.m.

Mather alumni and guests are asked to call to 843-525-8294 or email to make reservations.

The school's alumni chapter will host its eighth annual Founder's Day luncheon at noon Feb. 16 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Beaufort. Emory Campbell, president of Gullah Culture Consulting Services and executive director emeritus of Penn Center, will be the keynote speaker.

An advance donation of $35 is requested. Proceeds will go to the TCL Student Yearly Scholarship Fund and the Mather Museum, according to a news release.

The Mather School was established in 1868 to educate the daughters of freed slaves to become teachers. In the early 1970s, the school became part of the state's technical college system.
