Steve Maleh of Florida, who owns the Island Breeze shop on Hilton Head Island, was charged with five counts of illegal distribution of juvenile turtles, along with providing false information to federal agents and impersonating a federal agent, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
He was released on bond and is scheduled to make an initial appearance in the District Court in South Carolina on Jan. 23. The maximum penalty Maleh could receive is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for five years, according to the attorneys office.
