This will be the last day of winter's warmth. As of this writing, we have tied the record high again; the previous high for this date was set in 1950.

A potent cold front will generate rain as it slides through the area late Thursday. Then seasonally normal temperatures will take over leading into the weekend.

Some patchy fog will develop early, and a rain band across north Georgia is being held in place by a southwest flow around our Atlantic high. A new area of low pressure is developing in the North Central Gulf, and that will get things moving. Don't expect anything severe Thursday; at worst we'll see a mild thunderstorm.

Winter's back for the weekend, but extreme cold is not. We'll see normal winter temperatures for this time of year: weekend highs will be in the upper 50s and low 60s, overnight lows around 40, 30s inland. And it will stay dry through Martin Luther King Day.
