Democratic Women of Beaufort will meet Tuesday at Gilligan's at 2601 Boundary St. in Beaufort.

Jill Briggs of United Way of the Lowcountry will speak. The event starts with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. program.

Briggs administers a United Way program that tutors children in reading, with the goal of cutting the high school dropout rate in half within 10 years.
