Local Presbyterians organizing new church

Published: January 11, 2013

Beaufort-area Presbyterians who believe they have been disenfranchised by the Presbyterian Church are arranging a public meeting to discuss starting a new church.

The steering committee for the new church, First Scots Independent Presbyterian, consists of former members of First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort on Church Street.

The informational meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Masonic Lodge on Depot Road. Committee member Pierre McGowan expects 50 to 100 attendees.

Speakers will include the pastor of Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah and former Beaufort Mayor Henry C. Chambers.
