Town-hall series set for congressional candidates

Published: January 11, 2013

State Rep. Shannon Erickson, R-Beaufort, will conduct town-hall meetings to introduce the candidates vying to replace Tim Scott to represent the 1st Congressional District.

Scott, who was elected to a second term in November, vacated the seat for an appointment to replace Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate.

Currently, five meetings are planned, with two candidates showcased at each. The candidates will not debate, but can introduce themselves and answer questions from the audience, according to Erickson. Each candidate will be on stage for an hour, either from 6 to 7 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m.

The forums, which will be held in the Technical College of the Lowcountry auditorium off Ribaut Road in Beaufort, will be open to candidates from any party.

The dates are Jan. 31, and Feb. 4, 7, 18 and 21. The lineup of candidates will be announced as their attendance is confirmed.
