Ken Updike says Aaron Frazier is Hilton Head Island High's most consistent scorer since another Frazier roamed the hardwood for the Seahawks. That would be Aaron's older brother, Victor, who is best known for setting receiving records with the Hilton Head High football team.
But the younger Frazier has bigger goals in mind, namely, helping Hilton Head High boys basketball make a name for itself in its first year in Region 8-AAA. He helped get that run started with a 50-47 win over Berkeley in the Seahawks' region opener Tuesday night.
The sophomore has averaged 16.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his first full season with the varsity squad. He's connected on 40 percent of his three-point attempts and is shooting 45 percent from the floor overall.
"It's really exciting," Frazier said. "Last year I didn't get much playing time but (Updike) told me to come in every day and practice hard and that I would be a starter this year. That's what I've been doing -- practicing and working hard."
The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette caught up with Frazier this week for our 2-Minute Drill.
