Two men and a woman were arrested this week after a holiday visit turned into a family brawl involving a pistol at a Beaufort motel.

Four adults and six children from New York were staying in a room at the Econo Lodge on Dec. 26 after visiting relatives in Beaufort County earlier in the day, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

An argument had occurred at the family gathering, Police Chief Matt Clancy said. At about 7:20 p.m., the three suspects and two others arrived at the room's door, said they were housekeeping staff and barged into the room when the door was opened, Clancy said.

Michael Lewis Hagood, 39, of Burton is accused of hitting a 40-year-old man over the head with the butt of a pistol.

Nicole Whitmore, 39, of Beaufort and Monterreal Monroe Alston, 20, of Seabrook attacked two other adults, while Hagood threatened the children, Clancy said. Two others kept watch outside the door, but they have not been identified.

The man struck with the pistol was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. No one else was injured.

Hagood was charged Wednesday with possession of a stolen handgun, pointing a handgun at a person, first-degree burglary and first-degree assault and battery.

Whitmore, also arrested Wednesday, was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and battery and first-degree burglary.

Alston was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree burglary. He was still in the Beaufort County Detention Center as of Wednesday night, with bail set at $100,000.

Hagood and Whitmore also were in jail Wednesday, awaiting bond hearings.
