Insulting our teachers never a good option

Published: January 9, 2013

Your editorial response to comments by state education Superintendent Mick Zais was right on target. His role as a general did not seem to provide him with any understanding of the complexity of an educational system or prepare him to be an educational leader.

As was said in the editorial headline, "Don't insult teachers to get them to improve." That is probably true in any leadership situation, whatever the organization or whoever is part of the group.

True, Zais was elected, but your editorial has made it clear that in the next election cycle, the voters need to be better informed and more aware of what should be required of the next educational leader running for state superintendent of education.
