Investigation continues into Marine's death

Published: January 7, 2013

A crash Dec. 27 that killed a Parris Island Marine is still under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Cpl. Cameron P. Branum, 23, a native of Newalla, Okla., was killed after being struck by a 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by fellow Marine Cpl. Tyshan Bentley, 23, on Joe Frazier Road in Beaufort.

Bentley is a logistics clerk assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA-312, according to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort officials. He reported to the air station about two weeks ago, according to Lance Cpl. R.J. Driver. He has not been charged with a crime.

The Provost Marshal's Office -- the base's senior law-enforcement office -- and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are assisting the investigation.
