Northern Ireland native's best Harbour Town showing is tied for 61st in 2011

According to his Twitter posts, 2010 U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell will play the 45th RBC Heritage to be held April 15-21 at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.

"Excited to be part of the @RBC_Golf family. Doing great things in golf globally. Adding RBC Heritage and RBC Canadian Open to my 2013 sched," McDowell tweeted on New Year's Day.

RBC Heritage spokesperson Angela McSwain said the tournament doesn't begin to confirm any commitments until late January when it gets confirmation from the PGA Tour.

But the announcement of McDowell's commitment, linking to a news story at skysports.com, was on the RBC Heritage's Facebook page for most of Wednesday.

McDowell, ranked 15th in the world, has struggled at Harbour Town. His best finish in three appearances at the Heritage was his 61st-place tie in 2011 (1-over 68-69-74-74--285.

He missed the cut (70-75) in 2006 and tied for 70th in is first appearance in 2005 (15-over 75-71-75-78--299).

McDowell, a native of Northern Ireland, earned his first and only PGA Tour victory in the 2010 U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach, where he became the first European to win the championship in 40 years. McDowell also has six international victories, as well as wins in the 2010 Chevron World Challenge and the 2012 World Challenge.

Carl Pettersson won the 2012 RBC Heritage by five strokes over Zach Johnson.
