PHOTO: Taking the ocean plunge at Hunting Island State Park

Dressed as Superman, Will Proctor scampers from the cold ocean water Jan. 1, 2013, during the fifth annual Pelican Plunge at Hunting Island State Park. "It was cold, but it was all right once you got in," he said. He was among hundreds of others who braved the 52-degree water. Sponsored by the Friends of Hunting Island, the Pelican Plunge raises money for the Discover Carolina program, which enables local students to visit the park for a day of learning.
