HOOP SHOOT CONTEST: What: Bluffton Elks Lodge annual national free-throw shooting contest; Who: Children ages 8-13; When: Noon, Jan. 13; Where: Bluffton Boys and Girls Club; Notes: Three age divisions for boys and girls. Awards for division winners and runners-up. Winners advance to district competition in Charleston. Contestants must have valid birth certificate. NEW YEAR'S DAY POLAR BEAR 5K: What: Sixth annual Bluffton New Year's Day Polar Bear 5K; When: 10 a.m., Jan. 1; Where: Event starts at Buckwalter Place in Bluffton; Notes: New course this year. Award ceremony and post-race party with Hoppin' John, pizza, music and more. Race benefits the Palmetto Animal League and the Bluffton Fins swim team. RUN WITH THE RAVENS 3 MILE RESOLUTION RUN: What: Second annual Run With The Ravens 3 Mile resolution Run; When: 3:30 p.m., Jan. 20; Where: Pinckney Colony fields; Notes: The run/health walk raises money for St. Gregory the Great Catholic School. The cost is $10 per runner/walker. Kids in strollers are free. First 300 participants receive a SGGCS water bottle. There are refreshments, music and door prizes.
