Published: December 30, 2012

The USA/ASA South Carolina Badkatz and coach Bob Layman will be hosting a free fastpitch softball clinic from 2-4 p.m. today at Volunteer Park in Ridgeland.

Former Badkatz players will assist at the clinic.

Former Bluffton High and current Ohio University player Alexia Cortez will work with infielders, while former Thomas Heyward Academy standouts Ashlie Layman, a USC Beaufort pitcher, Andrea Daring, a USC Aiken catcher, and Bri Kelnhofer, a Limestone outfielder, will work with their respective positions.

After a 1 1/2-hour clinic, there will be 30 minutes reserved for questions.

In the past two seasons, Layman's Badkatz have finished 13th and 17th in the nation and 14 of the team's 16 players are now playing or will next year play college softball on scholarships. In his three seasons as head coach at Thomas Heyward, the Rebels have two state runner-up finishes and a state championship.
