Kitchens on Hilton Head Island and in Beaufort will serve up Christmas cheer and free festive fare for those who need to receive it ... and those who need to give.

On Hilton Head, a band of 400 volunteers is expected to serve more than 1,000 guests at the Community Christmas Day Dinner today, according to co-organizer Lois Willig.

The 10th annual fundraiser dinner benefits Meals on Wheels and Second Helpings. It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at The Beach House, a Holiday Inn Resort. Cash and check donations will be accepted.

Willig says there will be 100 smoked turkeys served along with traditional sides of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls and stuffing.

In addition to the food, Christmas carolers will walk from room to room, and there will be a birthday cake for Jesus' birthday.

To make reservations, call 843-304-1086.

Plant the Seed Ministry will offer Christmas meals for dining in or take out at the Atlantic Inn parking lot in Beaufort today. The free turkey and ham dinners will be served with traditional sides, including sweet potatoes, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, tea, coffee, and pie.

The meals are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are offered to the homeless, those who cannot spend the holiday with family and all others in need.
