Hope Haven plans volunteer training

Published: December 22, 2012

Hope Haven of the Lowcountry is accepting applications for volunteers and interns to attend training.

Hope Haven volunteers serve as hospital advocates to child and adult survivors of sexual assault and are trained to answer crisis calls from the 24-hour hotline. Experts in law enforcement and counseling, and a sexual-assault nurse examiner will present information about working with victims. The 25-hour training also includes multimedia presentations, group discussions and role playing to equip volunteers to help victims in crisis situations.

Training will be Jan. 21, 23, 25, 29, 31 and Feb. 2. The weekday sessions will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Saturday session is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. All six sessions must be attended for volunteers to be fully trained. The training location will be announced later. Registration is required.
