Have we had enough yet? Can we as a nation sanction the possibilities of more mass killings? I strongly believe the answer has to be: No! The Newtown, Conn., slayings have made the unthinkable unendurable.

Beaufort County can set the standard for our nation. I ask all cities, towns and the county governmental bodies in Beaufort County to enact legislation banning the possession, ownership, storage, use or transport of assault-style weapons by civilians in Beaufort County. The military and law enforcement agencies must continue to secure such weapons appropriately.
