Hilton Head car fire victim identified

Published: December 21, 2012

The victim of Wednesday morning's car fire on the Cross Island Parkway has been identified as Daniel Eugene Parker Sr., 72, of Hilton Head Island.

Parker died of smoke inhalation, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott. Parker Sr. was driving a 2012 VW Diamond Transportation cab when it caught fire early Wednesday morning, according to his son.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol, which is investigating, said heavy damage to the car may make it impossible to tell how, why or where the car started on fire.
