Hilton Head Island High set to host Seahawk Holiday Classic

The Seahawk Holiday Classic tips off once again today at Hilton Head Island High, as teams from four different states will flock to the island for three days of hoops action beginning this morning at 10 a.m.

Eight South Carolina teams, including area schools Hilton Head Island High and Whale Branch Early College High School, will take part in the tournament. Schools from Kentucky, Tennessee and Maryland round out the list of competitors.

Only Hilton Head Island and Colleton County will be represented by both their both boys and girls squads. Coach Ken Updike's Seahawks (3-4) takes the floor tonight at 8:30 p.m. against Smith County (Tenn.) while Dave Greenberg's ladies (6-1) take on Class 4-A school Fort Dorchester at 7 p.m.

Whale Branch's boys team opens the boys side of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. against Harlan County (Ky.). Colleton County will take on White Knoll at 2:30 p.m. while Andrews will play White County (Tenn.) at 5:30 p.m.

Action will open with the Columbia-based Ridge View girls taking on Whitwell (Tenn.) at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the Colleton County girls playing St. Mary's (Md.) at 1 p.m. Carolina Forest and Baylor (Tenn.) at 4 p.m. rounds out the women's bracket.

Admission to the tournament, which is sponsored this year by the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort, is $8 per day. Games last through Sunday, with semifinals and consolation rounds set for Saturday and the finals ticketed for Sunday.

Each team is guaranteed at least three games.
