High School Roundup, Dec. 20: Cannon, Ford combine to help BC shock rivals

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Battery Creek 61, Whale Branch 51: Daisja Cannon scored 22 points, dished out six assists and had six steals, and Elizabeth Ford scored 17 and grabbed eight rebounds as the Dolphins beat the Class 1-A No. 4 Warriors on the road.

For the Battery Creek (6-2), Alisha Varela added 11 points and five rebounds, Alex Bazemore has seven points and Erica Austin scored four with six rebounds and two blocks.

S'Nitra Mack of the Warriors (6-2) was the game-high scorer with 23. She added 10 rebounds. Kemoni Jenkins added 15 points for Whale Branch, which plays next at noon Dec. 27 against Frederick Douglass (Ga.) High School in the Bobcat Classic at Bluffton High.

Battery Creek plays Dec. 26 in the Christmas tournament at Lake Marion.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Whale Branch 65, Battery Creek 34: Dee Delany had 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists to spark the Warriors.

Simeon Middleton chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and brother Michael Middleton had eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Battery Creek's Devontae Wilson netted 12 points.

Whale Branch led 36-20 at halftime.

Whale Branch's next action comes Friday in the Seahawk Holiday Classic on Hilton Head Island.
