The Deep Well Project received a call from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office to see if it could help Greg. He was referred to as "a fine young man," who had been a "volunteer" with an organization in exchange for food and lodging, traveling from state to state collecting money for it by standing outside grocery stores.
Law enforcement officers believed the organization was a scam and that Greg, unaware of his employer's bad intent, had been left stranded on Hilton Head Island.
Deep Well called his father in North Carolina to make sure he was welcome home and bought a bus ticket for him. It also provided food for his trip. Greg and his father called the next day after he returned home to express their thanks.
Deep Well provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, the sick and the elderly.
