Prep Roundup, Dec. 19: Eagles edge Estill in boys game, 62-57

Thomas Parker notched a double-double, and the Beaufort High School boys basketball team stayed unbeaten with a 62-57 win at Estill on Tuesday night.

Parker finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles, now 6-0 overall. Otis McClain contributed 10 points and seven boards.

Jonathan Bostick led Estill with 12 points.

The Eagles next travel to Burke on Friday.

Battery Creek 70, Bishop England 50: Davontae Wilson had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Yuneek Crittendon added 16 points and eight rebounds and the Dolphins pulled away after leading 26-20 at halftime.

Eric Freeman added 10 points and eight rebounds for Battery Creek (3-4).

The Dolphins return to action today at Whale Branch.

Hilton Head Prep 53, Savannah Memorial Day 40: John Eck had 19 points and 10 rebounds to spark the Dolphins.

Memorial Day led 12-7 in the early going before Hilton Head Prep battled back to take a 21-19 lead at the intermission.

Randy Young contributed 9 points and 10 rebounds for the Dolphins.

Prep travels to Thomas Heyward on Friday for a 6:15 p.m. game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop England 61, Battery Creek 38: The Dolphins suffered a home loss despite a stellar all-around game from Daisja Cannon.

Cannon finished with 15 points, seven steals and six rebounds. Alicia Varela chipped in eight points, four steals and four boards for the Dolphins.

Battery Creek travels to Whale Branch tonight.

Estill 47, Beaufort High 39: The hosts got an early jump and cruised past the winless Eagles.

Jordan Fields led Beaufort High with 12 points, 11 steals and 10 rebounds. Mattie Hibbs contributed 11 points.

The Eagles (0-6) next play at Burke on Friday.

James Island Christian 46, Beaufort Academy 33: A scoreless second quarter doomed the Eagles at home.

Miranda Weslake had 23 points and 5 of her team's 12 steals. Charlotte Defosse added six points for the Eagles, who were outscored 14-0 in the second quarter.

Now 5-5, Beaufort Academy is idle until a Jan. 4 visit to Bible Baptist.
