Two men believed to be involved in a shooting in a Walmart parking lot were still at large late Tuesday.

A 24-year-old man was treated for gunshot wounds from a small-caliber gun just before midnight Monday at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, according to the Beaufort Police Department, which was alerted by hospital staff.

The victim told officers he was loading items into his car at the Walmart on Robert Smalls Parkway when he heard shots fired and felt a bullet strike his arm, according to a department news release. He told officers he drove home, then had a friend take him to the hospital.

Witnesses were later located and reported seeing the gunshot victim and two men arguing at about 11:30 p.m., shortly before three to four shots were fired, police said. Witnesses also said the suspects drove away in a white sedan.

A vehicle with a bullet hole and blood on the ground also were found by officers.

Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said the 24-year-old was "specifically targeted" and that robbery was not the motive.

Police have released photos of the two suspects and the vehicle taken from surveillance cameras. However, they declined to release further details.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Investigator Dowling at 832-322-7950, or give information anonymously at 843-322-7938.
