Swindlers posing as Palmetto Electric representatives have been calling area residents claiming their utilities will be disconnected if they don't pay right away, according to a Palmetto Electric news release.

Palmetto Electric customers have reported that the suspicious calls are coming from the number 559-800-8960. Anyone who receives a call from that number should call law enforcement, as well as Palmetto Electric, to report the scam. Credit card numbers and personal information should not be given to suspicious callers over the phone.

Palmetto Electric service representatives can confirm a bill payment, service work or an appointment at a customer's home or business at 843-681-0061.
