Chamber class to fix up Bluffton's DuBois Park

gsmith@islandpacket.comDecember 17, 2012

Children who play at DuBois Park in Old Town Bluffton soon will have new equipment to enjoy.

The 2013 Leadership Class, a training program for community leaders sponsored by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, has chosen the park as the site for its class project. Class members are raising money for a piece of playground equipment shaped like a shrimp trawler for the park at Boundary and Lawrence streets.

They recently gave an update to Bluffton Town Council on their $21,000 plan, which includes the wooden ship, slides and a play area with special ground cover to minimize bumps and bruises.

Money will come from donations, sponsors, an oyster roast fundraiser and other means.

The park recently underwent $146,000 in improvements, including new landscaping and sod, swinging benches and a rain garden. Sidewalks and about a dozen on-street parking spaces were also installed on the one-acre tract that is open to the public.
