A driver was flown to a Savannah hospital Friday night with serious, but not life-threatening injuries after flipping his vehicle on Hilton Head
Island.
Capt. Jim Bukoffsky of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said speed was likely a factor in the crash.
The one-vehicle accident happened at about 8:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the Cross Island Parkway.
Bukoffsky said the driver was headed off island when his vehicle hit a tree in the median and flipped several times.
Bukoffsky, a duty officer who was not on scene, was unsure whether there were passengers in the car.
Officers were still working the scene at 9:15 p.m. The accident slowed, but did not block traffic, Bukoffsky said.
Information about the driver and other details about the accident were not immediately available Friday night.
