A 19-year-old man was shot and killed on Marshland Road on Wednesday night, and investigators are looking for the suspect, according to the Beaufort County Sheriffs Office.
Cesar Reyna-Reyna of Hilton Head Island was found with a gunshot wound in the front yard of 180 Marshland Road. A relative heard gunshots and found the man on the ground at about 7 p.m., a Sheriffs Office news release said.
He was pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m. at Hilton Head Hospital, Deputy Coroner David Ott said. Deputies are trying to identify a black man who was seen with Reyna-Reyna in the yard just before his death, the Sheriffs Office said.
Residents say Marshland Road was shut down in both directions well into the night, blocking traffic for hours.
Guy Malool, who lives in Crosswinds, said it took him an hour and a half to get home in what should have been a five-minute drive. He said the crime scene was right across the street from his development.
A guard at the Indigo Run Plantation gate told him deputies were searching for a suspect and that he should go inside and lock his doors. It took a police escort to get him home, Malool said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. B. Chapman at 843-255-3417 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC (274637).
