Prep Roundup, Dec. 13: Australian team defeats Hilton Head Prep boys

BOYS BASKETBALL

Victoria Country NITP (Australia) 65, Hilton Head Prep 57: Victoria Country National Intensive Training Program dropped in for a visit to Hilton Head Island and held off the Dolphins in an exhibition game.

"They're men," Hilton Head Prep coach Jerry Faulkner said of the Australian squad. "You could tell those guys play a lot of international basketball. They're big and physical."

John Eck scored 17 points in the loss for Hilton Head Prep, while Sam McCracken added 10 points and eight rebounds. Randy Young led Prep with 10 rebounds and Charlie Wilmot had a team-high seven assists.

The Australian squad travels north to Columbia to take on Class 4-A Lexington on Tuesday, while Hilton Head Prep prepares to host Bible Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the Dolphins' annual RET Thomas Invitational.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ruapehu College (New Zealand) 40, Hilton Head Prep 28: Abby Kandel scored 10 points and Catherine Sheehan added nine points as the Prep girls faced the New Zealand team in its final game in the Lowcountry. The Kiwis also played Beaufort Academy and Hilton Head Christian Academy in the past week.

Hilton Head Prep's girls begin play in the annual RET Thomas Invitational on Friday.
