A 34-year-old St. Helena Island man was arrested after a two-month-long, drug-related investigation.
Yuhon Lephree Simmons was arrested at his Kiwi Lane home by Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies at about 1:15 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh. About 17 grams of cocaine, two grams of marijuana, one narcotics tablet and an .357 Smith & Wesson handgun were confiscated.
Deputies made several controlled drug buys from Simmons at his home during the investigation, McIntosh said.
Simmons was charged with trafficking crack cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, possession of scheduled drugs and simple possession of marijuana. He remained in the Beaufort County Detention Center late Wednesday with bail set at $55,000.
