Hilton Head High student charged with knife at school

Published: December 7, 2012

A Hilton Head Island High School student was charged Wednesday with bringing a knife to school, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Students told assistant principal Joe Skirtich that the suspect -- a minor the Sheriff's Officer did not identify -- brought electronic cigarettes to school.

Skirtich didn't find any tobacco or cigarettes, but did find a knife with a 3.5-inch blade in the student's backpack, according to the report filed by a school resource officer.

The student said he forgot the knife was in his bag, according to the report.

Deputies confiscated the knife, notified the student's mother and gave the student a summons to appear in Family Court, according to the report.
