The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball program had 13 members of its inaugural team named 2012 NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday.

Sophomores Melanie Goolsby, Rebekah Herty, Victoria Hilton and Katie Rietkovich made the list for USCB, along with freshmen Amber Allen, Chelsey Blasingame, Maddie Byrd, Hailey Grimoskas, Kalie Hastings, Kalin Martin, Jasmon Russell, Taylor Triplett and Brittney Willbanks.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.

The honor marks the second component of the NFCA's academic award program. In October, the squads with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as All-Academic Teams. USCB was one of 31 NAIA programs to earn that distinction, boasting a 3.215 team GPA for 2011-12.
