Penders thankful for medical care and caring friends

info@islandpacket.comDecember 5, 2012

On Oct. 1, my husband, Jim Pender, was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with "indigestion." He had been in a yoga class at the YMCA when it started, and several ladies in the class felt he should go to the hospital. Once there, it was determined he was having a heart attack. Dr. Cecil McElveen and Dr. Saeed Rehman were quick to assess his symptoms and wasted no time getting him airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He was admitted to the cardiac care unit, where it was determined he needed a stent.

We would like thank Dr. McElveen and Dr. Rehman and the nurses and staff at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital emergency room for their emergency care, quick actions and decisions to get Jim to MUSC. A thank you also goes to Drs. William Wince, Thomas Todoran, Beau Bergeron, nurse Connie Whitmire and the entire cardiology red team for everything they did regarding Jim's care while there. They are an extremely caring, patient-oriented group of doctors, nurses and staff.

Also, many special thanks to the "Yoga Ladies" for noticing something was not quite right with Jim. We are very touched by the many phone calls inquiring about him. The cards, thoughts and prayers from family, friends and the community have been such encouraging support for him. So many people have contacted us and family members about Jim that we wanted to let everyone know how thankful we are for everything.
