Friends of Hilton Head Island library grateful for grant

info@islandpacket.comDecember 5, 2012

One of the jewels of the Hilton Head Island community is our public library. Located on Beach City Road, it is a branch of the Beaufort County library system, and it is a central part of our island.

While the county continues to reduce funding for county libraries, the Friends of the Library has increased its support for our library.

In the past year, Friends has contributed more than $120,000 for books and other materials. And it has provided more than $4,000 in sponsorships for library-run programs.

Special thanks to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, which has given Friends a $31,950 grant to refit the computer lab at the library and begin development of the Family Success Center.

Volunteers in the lab already are teaching classes to help our community with computer literacy, online safety, homework and software applications.

Please drop in to see for yourself.

The Friends would like to thank our community for all of its support through memberships, the Book Store purchases and donations. I urge all who use our library to stop by the Book Store and become a member of the Friends.
