The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has picked nine local organizations to receive grants totaling more than $310,000.
The foundation has distributed $44 million in grants during its 18-year history.
Grants awarded this cycle went to:
The Antioch Educational Center -- $5,920 for a computer instructor and for program advertising. The Ridgeland organization provides evening computer access to people who travel to work in the hotels, restaurants and other tourist-related businesses, mostly on Hilton Head Island. The Art League of Hilton Head -- $5,375 for an enhanced website that will include video, slide shows and online enrollments for events and classes. The Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence -- $10,000 for the outdoor Livestock Learning Lab, which will include a barn, pasture and donated animals. The Heritage Library Foundation -- $12,000 toward the Encyclopedia Hilton Head project. This project will focus on establishing the identities and lineage of about 1,500 original residents of Mitchelville. Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity -- $100,000 for infrastructure at The Glen project. Memory Matters -- $18,900 to teach professional skills to aides for those with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Neighborhood Outreach Connection -- $20,000 for a grant writer to help NOC implement its development fund and marketing plans. OSPREY Village -- as much as $125,000 for land acquisition in Bluffton. OSPREY would use the land to provide housing options so developmentally disabled adults can live independently. The YANA Club of Hilton Head Island -- $20,000 for a community liaison consultant to help those seeking guidance.
